Inventory
An inventory count reconciles what is physically on the shelves with what the records say. Without regular counts any stock-keeping system slowly drifts away from reality, and management loses trust in its numbers. The inventory module lets you run counts of any scale quickly, without stopping the warehouse, and with as few people involved as possible.
In the client app you plan counts, prepare counting tasks, review the discrepancies, approve the results, and let the system adjust stock. The counting itself happens on the PDT — see Counting on the PDT.
Four kinds of counts — which to choose
| Full | Cycle | Spot | Event-driven | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What it covers | All stock in one or several warehouses | A scheduled slice of the goods, counted daily | One cell or a small group of cells | The cells touched by a triggering event |
| When to run it | Periodic full audit, usually planned ahead | Continuously, by a recurring schedule | On suspicion of a shortage or record error | Automatically — after a large receiving, a cell handover, a pallet move between zones |
| Stops the warehouse? | Usually yes, in the covered areas | No — runs alongside normal work | No — only the affected cells are blocked | No — runs in the background |
| How it starts | Planned in advance, staff informed | From a cycle plan (e.g. ABC: A monthly, B quarterly, C yearly) | Created manually when the doubt arises | Triggered by the event, no planning |
Whichever kind you pick, the process that follows is the same — the difference is only in scope and how the count gets started:
