External location restrictions

An external location is a place that stands for a destination outside the warehouse — where goods go when they leave it. Unplanned picking always picks to one of these locations.

You can limit which products are allowed to go to a given external location. The limit is a restriction product set — a named list of products — set on the location itself, in its settings. It is optional and applies to one location at a time.

How it behaves

An external location is in one of three states:

  • Not available for this flow — the warehouse does not have unplanned picking turned on. The location cannot be a target at all.
  • Open — unplanned picking is on and the location has no restriction product set. Any product may be picked to it.
  • Restricted — unplanned picking is on and the location has a restriction product set. Only products on that list may be picked to it.

Leaving the restriction empty means no limit — it does not mean "nothing allowed".

When it is checked

The restriction is checked as each pick is recorded, not when the document is created. If you record a pick of a product that is not on the location's list, that pick is refused — the rest of the document is unaffected. Because the check happens at the moment of the pick, changing a location's restriction takes effect for every pick recorded after the change.
