Wave statuses

A wave moves through a fixed sequence of statuses as the supervisor builds it, releases it, and the floor works it off. Some statuses appear only when the wave's picking policy enables the matching step. The status bar at the top of the wave is informational — the supervisor advances the wave with explicit actions (Plan, Launch), not by clicking the bar. Status labels match what the operator sees on screen.

Preparation (DRAFT)

The wave is being assembled. The supervisor sets the warehouse, owner, date, and picking policy, and adds the orders to include. Nothing is reserved yet and no pick work exists. This is the only status in which the wave is editable.

Transitions out: Planned via the Plan action (requires at least one order); Cancelled if cancelled.

Planned (PLANNED)

Entered by the Plan action. The system turns the wave's orders into pick work according to the policy, and the orders move to In Wave and on to their planned states. The wave is no longer freely editable. The supervisor can still send it back with To Draft, or release it.

Transitions out: Replenishment or Picking via the Launch action (depending on the policy); Preparation via To Draft; Cancelled if cancelled.

Replenishment (REPLENISHMENT)

Appears only when the policy has Require replenishment before picking enabled. Before picking can start, stock is topped up into the pick faces. The client shows these replenishment moves as a list; the moves themselves are carried out in the relocation/inventory area. The wave advances automatically once replenishment is done.

Transitions out: Picking once replenishment completes.

Picking (PICKING)

The wave is on the floor. Pick work is executed on the handheld terminal; the client shows the live progress of every pick document and its lines. Planned picks cannot be executed from the client — only unplanned picks may be recorded here.

Transitions out: the next enabled phase — Sorting, Packing, Movement, or Completed.

Sorting (SORTING)

Appears only when the policy has Use sorting enabled — used by the batch methodology, where goods picked for several orders are split out per order. The wave passes through this status; the hands-on sorting workstation is not part of the desktop client.

Transitions out: Packing, Movement, or Completed, depending on what else the policy enables.

Packing (PACKING)

Appears only when the policy has Use packing enabled. Picked goods are packed into shipping containers. The wave passes through this status; the hands-on packing workstation is not part of the desktop client.

Transitions out: Movement or Completed.

Movement (MOVEMENT)

The final internal moves that bring the finished containers to the dispatch area. The client shows these container movements as a monitored list.

Transitions out: Completed.

Completed (COMPLETED)

Terminal. Every step the policy required is done and the wave's orders are ready to ship. The wave is read-only.

Transitions out: none — terminal.

Cancelled (CANCELLED)

Terminal. The supervisor cancelled the wave. Cancellation is available from the wave's status control. The document is preserved for audit.

Transitions out: none — terminal.
